Provide special education students with functional and alternative learning activities and experiences in a self‑contained setting. Develop and implement an alternative curriculum aligned to grade level TEKS incorporating fundamental academic skills, communication skills, socialization skills, domestic skills, community functioning skills, recreational and leisure skills, and pre‑vocational or vocational skills to meet the unique needs of each individual student.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education and general education endorsements for assignment subject and grade level

• Knowledge of the special needs of students in the assigned area
• Knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation process
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction for grades assigned
• Knowledge of implementation of positive behavioral supports and individualized behavior intervention plans

• At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
• At least one year of experience working with students with low incidence disabilities
