Primary Purpose:
Inclusive Practices Services are provided by special education teachers and/or paraprofessionals within the general education setting, and can encompass a wide range of supports including, but not limited to, direct/in-class support (ICS) within a general education setting, co-teaching, indirect support to general education staff on behalf of the student. Staff who provide inclusive practices services collaboratively plan, design, and deliver instruction to ensure students have access to and make progress in the general curriculum.
Staff ensure that individualized adaptations are provided in accordance with a student's IEP. Inclusive practices staff also provide specially designed pull-out instruction (e.g., Resource) when necessary, in accordance with a student's IEP. Inclusive practices services are always focused on ensuring students can access the curriculum in the least restrictive environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Appropriate Texas teaching certificate (e.g. Special Education EC-12 and appropriate generalist / core certificate, as well as ESL certificate if applicable)
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Effective communication skills
- Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
