Job DescriptionPrimary
Purpose:
To work with students and families in overcoming psychological and behavioral issues affecting educational performance. Provide individual, small group, and family counseling to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their ability to enjoy the benefits of the educational process.
Education/Certification:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas license in Counseling
- Special Education Certification (preferred)
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills
- Knowledge and skill in casework methods
- Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
- Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
- Awareness and ability to access community resources
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Works in cooperation with campus administrators and special education staff
- Serves as a liaison between parents, school and community agencies and may assist in data collection pertaining to educational and sociological variables.
- Coordinates with special education staff during the referral process
- Administers screening instruments to establish need for counseling services
- Consults with teachers as needed to benefit academic achievement or behavioral intervention
- Assists the ARD Committee to develop IEP goals and objectives for counseling
- Performs routine classroom visits to assist special education teachers in meeting established goals for students.
- Provides leadership and assistance to campus administrators, teachers, and related service personnel.
- Collect educational and career information to assist student development of skills and interests.
- Collaborates with LSSP, LCSW, campus case managers and other school staff
- Coordinates and monitors online therapy sessions.
- Assist with professional development for schools
- Available to conference with teachers with student concerns
- Consels parents/caregivers who have children in Special Education as appropriate to benefit the student.
- Consels individuals or in small groups
- Assists the Director in the development of a comprehensive special education program.
- Maintains records of student interaction.
- Accepts other duties as assigned by the Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Travel to student homes and multiple work locations as assigned. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $56,000 to $82,500 Per Year
