Primary PurposeA BASE teacher is a professional who manages student behavior in BASE classroom through direct instruction in expectations for behavior. A BASE teacher provides intervention and instruction to assist at-risk students to develop appropriate behavior, coping skills and social skills.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate

Knowledge of special needs of students specific to behavior - General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior within a self-contained environment
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work with all children, including children with disabilities
- Experience: One year teaching experience
- Instruction:
Implements instructional and behavioral program. - Utilizes knowledge of PASS behavior management system in designing individual and classroom programs.
- Plan and uses appropriate learning skills, activities, equipment and materials that meet the needs of assigned students through individually designed lessons.
- Provide instruction in PASS Monitoring System and reward system.
- Instructs and models replacement behaviors identified on student’s behavior plan.
- Provides instruction and role‑play opportunities for students in replacement behaviors identified in student’s behavior plan.
- Escorts students to mainstream classroom for structured observation and student feedback experience.
- Facilitates student completion of a modified amount of academic assignments from teacher of record.
- Consistently monitors students and uses PASS monitoring sheets to document student behaviors.
- Ensures that accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans are implemented for students with disabilities as appropriate.
- Maintains effective communication with classroom teachers, staff, administrators, and parents that build relationships and lead to greater behavioral outcomes.
- Assists in developing interventions, functional behavior assessments, and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
- Schedules PASS team meetings as necessary to implement a successful PASS program.
- Maintains monitoring documents and logs for all students.
- Assigned subject area paraprofessionals.
- Work with Director of Curriculum and Director of Personnel in developing New Teacher Academy Program.
- Plan and conduct monthly new teacher meetings, trainings for teachers hired after the beginning of school year, and provide paraprofessionals instructional support training.
- Identify staff development needs, develop and present training.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
