Location: Central

An EMSP professor will deliver high-quality classroom and lab instruction, support student success, and contribute to institutional service in alignment with departmental and college standards.

General Expectations (All Faculty)

  • Maintain current comprehensive knowledge and experience in the teaching field and assigned discipline

  • Stay current with departmental and college policies, complete required compliance trainings, and meet professional development hours

  • Maintain scheduled office hours and meet attendance requirements for online and hybrid courses
Responsibilities to the Student
  • Design instructional activities appropriate to the expected rigor of the course and consistent with program expectations and objectives
  • Embed interactive learning activities to engage students and promote active learning skillsets
  • Prepare and use appropriate instructional materials that support course rigor and objectives
  • Align learning opportunities and assessments with course and program learning outcomes, integrating core competencies
  • Sequence learning opportunities and assessments to build student learning and understanding
  • Integrate workplace professional skillsets such as punctuality, initiative, timely submission, and technology use
  • Motivate students to reach their highest level within an environment of dignity and cordiality
Responsibilities to the Department
  • Follow prescribed syllabi and adopted textbooks, including assigned readings
  • Inform students of learning outcomes, class procedures, and grading policies at semester start
  • Demonstrate initiative and support leadership, faculty, and staff to implement strategic improvements
  • Attend and participate in required department and school meetings and perform duties assigned by chair or dean
Responsibilities to the College
  • Teach in the modality (face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online) assigned by the college
  • Maintain accurate records and submit attendance and grade reports by published deadlines
  • Model professional conduct and enforce student conduct policies
  • Participate in convocation activities and graduation events
  • Maintain required memberships, licenses, and certifications
  • Assume committee duties and other responsibilities over and above assigned classes and hours
  • Participate in college‑sponsored events beyond teaching duties

Work Environment

The position may be performed indoors and outdoors, may require work outside normal business hours, and may involve exposure to noise from medical machinery and horns.

Physical Demands

Sitting, walking, standing, typing, bending, kneeling, pushing, lifting (up to 125 lb).

Travel Required

Yes – minimal. Candidate must hold a current valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s of Applied Science (BAS) in Emergency Medical Services or related field or
  • Associate’s Degree with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline. Demonstrated competencies may include, but are not limited to, three years of work experience in the field related to the courses being taught, honors/awards, and the like.
Required Experience
  • Three years of experience in pre‑hospital emergency care.
Required Credentials / Licensure
  • Texas certification as an Emergency Medical Technician‑Paramedic (required or within 12 months of hiring)
