Qualifications

High School Diploma
Bilingual preferred
Obtain ODE Educational Aide Permit after employment is approved.

Job Goal

To provide support to Native Language Speaking students and assist classroom teachers with instructional support to enhance academic achievement of students.

Essential Functions

Act as a bilingual interpreter/translator for staff and limited English proficient students and families; contact families by phone as needed and translate/interpret all forms in the target language.

Administer assessments of language proficiency such as initial and annual assessments required by the state.

Provide in-class instruction as directed by teacher using native language supports.

Be flexible and dependable while maintaining confidentiality of students and families.

Work in collaboration with mainstream teachers, EL staff, and other staff members.

Maintain classroom management of small groups of students in the target language.

Communicate clearly in target language and in English across reading, writing, listening, and speaking domains.

Adhere to HCESC policies as outlined in the employee handbook.

Conduct yourself with proper interpreter protocol, adhering to what was said, not interjecting thoughts, speaking respectfully and directly to persons involved.

Support and advocate for students in the classroom, school, and community.

Accompany students on field trips and community training and inclusive settings.

Provide professional development to staff on the role of Native Language Supports personnel.

Participate in student staffing and educational team meetings for tiers of intervention support.

Satisfy all job-related training and attendance requirements.
