Job DescriptionProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university;
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI);
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned; [Physical Education Teachers:
Current AED and CPR certificate] - Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned;
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction;
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior;
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills - Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
- Instructional Strategies: Develop and implement lesson plans fulfilling district curriculum requirements and inclusive of written evidence of preparation;
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, materials, equipment, and technology reflecting understanding of student learning styles and needs;
Conduct assessment of student learning styles to inform instructional planning;
Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEP guidelines;
Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods;
Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and supervise completion. - Student Growth and Development: Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing;
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities;
Be a positive role model and support district mission. - Classroom Management and Organization: Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students;
Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and handbook;
Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities;
Assist in selecting instructional materials;
Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records. - Communication: Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Professional Growth and Development: Participate in staff development activities;
Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies;
Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees. - Other: Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct the work of instructional aides.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Use of personal computer and peripherals;
Standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: AED];
Posture: prolonged standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting;
Motion: frequent walking;
Lifting: regular light lifting (less than 15 lbs);
Environment: indoor and outdoor work, exposure to noise;
Mental: maintain emotional control under stress, work prolonged or irregular hours.
