Insight:
Teacher
Provide instruction and support through the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program to promote college and career readiness, academic achievement, critical thinking, organization, and student success. Support students in developing the skills, habits, and mindset necessary to succeed in rigorous coursework and postsecondary opportunities.
Qualifications Education and Certification- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned
- English as a Second Language (ESL) certification (preferred)
- Or ability to obtain ESL certification within one year of hire
- AVID training (preferred)
- One (1) year of clinical teaching experience or one (1) year of full-time teaching experience (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) methodologies and best practices
- Working knowledge of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) strategies
- Knowledge of subject(s) assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation regarding performance and professional growth
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability in all interactions and responsibilities
- Advanced organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Deliver instruction aligned with AVID program requirements and district expectations
- Implement Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) strategies within the AVID classroom and support implementation of AVID strategies across campus
- Create and maintain a college‑going culture that promotes academic achievement, leadership, and postsecondary readiness
- Collaborate with counselors and campus staff to support student enrollment in rigorous coursework aligned with students' goals, interests, and abilities
- Advocate for AVID students and support equitable access to advanced academic opportunities
- Maintain required AVID documentation, data collection, and program reports in a timely manner
- Implement lesson plans aligned with the district’s curriculum, demonstrating written preparation as required
- Deliver engaging instruction using appropriate strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that address diverse learning styles and student needs, following Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations
- Integrate technology effectively into instruction to enhance student learning and engagement
- Assess student learning styles and use results to tailor instructional activities for maximum impact
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula and provide appropriate accommodations for students receiving special education services, ensuring compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to establish instructional goals, objectives, and methods that align with district expectations
