Position: Gonzales ISD - Social Studies Composite Teacher
Location: Gonzales

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Teach the District curriculum and actively participate in the curriculum alignment and development process. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Valid Texas teacher certificate or approved alternative certification:
    Social Studies Composite.
  • Special Knowledge and

    Skills:

    General knowledge of curriculum and instruction; knowledge of subjects assigned; ability to research and develop teaching units; ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience

Student teaching or approved internship.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies and Curriculum Expectations
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Align resources and teaching to the District curriculum and actively participate in the District curriculum development process.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by federal regulations, the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Incorporate research-based instructional strategies in the teaching of the curriculum.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the diverse needs of students assigned. Ensure equal access to curriculum and equitable delivery to each student.
  • Work cooperatively with other teachers to modify curricula for students with special needs (Regular Education, Special Education, 504, Bilingual).
  • Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom and Laboratory Management
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the District Discipline Management Plan, Code of Conduct, and campus student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and support staff. Encourage parents to support student learning.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Seek and actively participate in appropriate, ongoing professional development.
Other Responsibilities
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers as assigned.

    Maintain emotional control under stress and meet the mental demands of teaching.
  • Physical demands:
    Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing as required by the teaching assignment.
