Position: Gonzales ISD - Science Teacher
Location: Gonzales

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Teach the District curriculum and actively participate in the curriculum alignment and development process. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned or approved alternate certification – specifically certification in history and preferably, but not absolutely required, with 4–8 generalist or 1–8 elementary or similarly related certification.
  • ESL Certified.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned.
  • Ability to research and develop teaching units.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Student teaching or approved internship experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies / Curriculum Expectations

Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation as required.
Align resources used to the curriculum and align teaching to the District curriculum.
Actively participate in the District curriculum development process.
Present subject matter according to federal regulations, the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Incorporate research‑based instructional strategies into the teaching of the curriculum.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the diverse needs of students assigned, ensuring equal access to curriculum and equitable delivery to each student.
Work cooperatively with other teachers to modify curricula for students with special needs (Regular Education, Special Education, 504, Bilingual).
Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and approved by the campus principal.
Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.

Classroom / Laboratory Management and Organization

Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Manage students’ behavior in accordance with the District Discipline Management Plan, Code of Conduct, and campus student handbook.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and support staff.
Encourage parents to support student learning.
Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

Seek and actively participate in appropriate ongoing professional development.

Other Duties

Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise teacher aide(s), volunteer(s), and student teacher(s) as assigned.

Be able to meet the mental demands of teaching (i.e., maintain emotional control under stress).
Be able to meet the physical demands of teaching (i.e., frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing).
Maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning by treating all students with respect and developing positive relations with students and parents.
