The Practicum Student must complete and submit the GISD Practicum/Field Experience Application (25-26 SY).
Submission of the application will initiate the required background verification process.
All practicum students must complete fingerprinting and a criminal history background check through the district's approved vendor.
After the application is received, the HR Department will contact the student with instructions for obtaining a Fast Pass for fingerprinting.
Students may not begin practicum hours until fingerprinting and background clearance are completed and confirmed by HR.
Program Directors, Supervisors, or Coordinators must submit:
- Official placement request or practicum verification letter
- Required number of hours and semester dates
- Scope of practicum responsibilities
- University supervisor contact information
- Proof of university-provided liability coverage
Placement requests and documentation should be submitted to Mary Lynn Ramirez
Practicum students must be assigned:
- A designated campus supervisor
- A defined schedule and scope of duties
- Appropriate supervision at all times
Practicum students may not:
- Be left unsupervised with students
- Access confidential records without authorization
- Provide independent counseling or instructional services unless permitted under program guidelines and supervised by qualified staff
Once all requirements (application, background clearance, and university documentation) are complete, GISD Human Resources will notify the Practicum Student and Program Director/Supervisor of placement approval.
Students may not report to campus until written approval is issued.
