Primary
Purpose:
The Interpreter provides interpreting services for hearing impaired students in a variety of educational settings. This individual works as part of a collaborative team to facilitate communication and support for students with hearing impairments.
- Education:
High school diploma or GED - Valid certification as interpreter granted by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Knowledge of interpreter role and R.I.D. Code of Professional Conduct
- Experience working with individuals with varied language abilities
- An understanding of Deaf culture and the Deaf community
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff
- Some experience working in a public school setting

Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. - Posture:
May require standing, moving, or positioning for extended periods. - Motion:
Ability to use hands and arms for extended periods for signing. - Lifting:
Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds). - Environment:
Schedule may include evenings or extracurricular activities as needed. - Mental Demands:
Ability to attend and actively engage for prolonged periods.
