Purpose:
To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary
Purpose:
To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university;
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
Experience/Knowledge: Knowledgeable in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, and Texas Education Agency requirements; teaching techniques and methodology; physical, mental and emotional child development process; special needs of exceptional learners.
Major Responsibilities and Duties- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of district resources.
- Prepare for classes assigned, and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the location and the needs of students.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Evaluate student progress regularly.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assist in formulating, upholding, and enforcing school rules, regulations, and Board Policy.
- Be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside instructional time when required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
- Cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain professional relations with others.
- Maintain open communication with students and parents about academic and behavioral progress.
- Pursue professional growth through workshops, seminars, conferences, and advanced coursework.
- Accept responsibilities for co‑curricular activities as assigned when they do not interfere with the primary teaching assignment.
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; maintain emotional control under stress; implement TEA rules and regulations.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Occasional prolonged hours; regular physical demands of stooping, lifting, and other strenuous activities.
