Instructional Support Specialist

Purpose:
Supports staff with instruction, intervention, and assessments and identifies strategies to meet the instructional needs of at-risk students through a multi-tiered system of supports. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned. Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subject assigned. Knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience:
Successful teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to supply intervention to individual and small groups of children using adopted intervention programs for core subjects.
Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment and feedback related to student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Assists, where applicable, in the administration of assessments. Maintains records on each child as a basis for instruction. Monitors the progress of children who have completed intervention programs.

Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication Be available by phone, e-mail, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents during scheduled work hours. Communicate with students or parents on a regular basis via phone or video conference, e-mail, or district-approved Learning Management System as directed by district administrative regulations. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching the assigned content area, including teaching strategies, assessment of literacy or numeracy skills, interpretation of assessment results. Research and prepare materials for the use by the district, departments, schools, and teachers, including teaching strategies, assessment of literacy or mathematics skills, interpretation of assessment results.
Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative content instructional practices through various activities such as individual discussions (informal and formal), coaching sessions, demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion analysis, study groups, staff meetings, professional development programs. Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately, and in a timely manner. Coordinate/facilitate instructional material pilots in assigned content area. Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
