Overview
A paraprofessional, or teacher’s assistant, assists teachers with instructional, administrative and classroom management tasks. Duties you may want to include in your paraprofessional job description are: helping students complete their coursework, supervising students during group activities and preparing work needed for class.
Paraprofessionals assist students and teachers to help ensure a smooth, productive school day. This often includes performing a mix of clerical, academic and behavior-management-related tasks.
Responsibilities- Implement instructional plans provided by the supervising teacher
- Create and oversee behavior-management plans
- Supervise students in the classroom and during certain out-of-classroom activities
- Tutor students and assist in small group learning exercises
- Help with administrative tasks, such as copying and filing papers, taking attendance and preparing presentations
- Collaborate with other educational professionals to meet students’ needs
- Assist with more generalized school activities, like assemblies and recess
