Student Worker – Library Information Desk

East Texas A&M University – Department Library, Commerce, Texas.
Job Type: Student Worker. The position provides front‑line customer service to library users.

• Assist faculty, staff, students, and community borrowers with informational and directional queries.
• Check in and check out books and other library materials.
• Direct customers to other departments and areas of the university when appropriate.
• Handle routine requests for supplies and provide assistance with library printers, photocopiers, and other library technology equipment, troubleshoot equipment, and report issues as needed.
• Assist with the maintenance of general stacks, including shelving, shelf reading, and shifting of collection.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M University–Commerce.
• Available on weekends and in the evening.
• Basic computer and typing skills.
• Basic phone operations (answering, holding, transferring).
• Basic organizational skills.
• Ability to perform accurate and detailed work.
• Team‑oriented, able to work toward common goals of the library and university.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Basic tasks for opening/closing the library.
• Ability to navigate the library website and booking software.
• Assist with monitoring building use and enforcing library policy.
• Physical: capable of moving, pushing, pulling, and lifting medium to heavy weight (20–50 pounds) items, and handling material that may contain dust, mold, or mildew.
• Preferred:
  Previous experience in a library or customer‑service related position.
• Security‑sensitive position; applicant must undergo criminal history investigation and meet institutional verification requirements.
