Position SummaryRoyal ISD is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Life Skills Teacher to serve students at Royal Elementary School. The Life Skills Teacher will provide specially designed instruction to students with significant cognitive, developmental, adaptive, and/or communication needs in a structured and supportive learning environment.
The ideal candidate will build meaningful relationships with students, create engaging and individualized learning experiences, and support students in developing academic, social, communication, behavioral, and independent living skills. This position requires strong collaboration with families, campus staff, related service providers, and the special education team to ensure students receive high-quality instruction and services aligned to their Individualized Education Programs.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education
- ESL certification preferred
- Valid Texas certification appropriate for the grade level and assignment
- CPI certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge of special education laws, ARD/IEP processes, and instructional best practices
- Ability to develop and implement individualized instruction based on student needs
- Strong classroom management and behavior support skills
- Ability to collect and use data to monitor student progress
- Knowledge of accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to support students with personal care, mobility, communication, and daily living needs as required
- Provide direct instruction to students in a Life Skills classroom setting.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs.
- Adapt curriculum, materials, and instructional methods to meet individual student needs.
- Support students in academic, functional, communication, behavioral, social, and daily living skill development.
- Collect and maintain data to document student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
- Participate in ARD meetings and collaborate with parents, administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
- Supervise, train, and support classroom paraprofessionals in the implementation of student services and supports.
- Implement behavior intervention plans, accommodations, modifications, and instructional supports with fidelity.
- Maintain required special education documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Create a positive, safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support students with transitions, toileting, feeding, mobility, and other personal care needs as appropriate.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively, maintain emotional control under stress, manage multiple priorities, and work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and assisting students with physical or personal care needs. May be required to lift, transfer, or position students with assistance and appropriate training.

Salary: $60,500 to $74,407 Per Year
