Educational Diagnostician Primary Purpose
Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services. Work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate instructional programs for students with disabilities.
Qualifications- Master’s degree in educational assessment
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate
- Three years of teaching experience in a special education setting
- Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories
- Ability to interpret data
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Assessment: select and administer formal and informal assessments, compile comprehensive student information, present findings to the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Consultation: assist classroom teachers with IEP implementation, provide staff development training, and consult parents and administration to enhance their work with students.
- Program Management: select assessment materials, evaluate and refine the assessment program, maintain reports and records, comply with federal, state, and local policies, and engage in professional development.
- Other: follow district safety protocols, maintain positive relationships with supervisors and colleagues, and communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Supervisory responsibilities:
None.
- Tools and equipment: personal computer, peripherals, and other instructional equipment.
- Posture: prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: frequent walking.
- Lifting: may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more), positioning of students with physical disabilities, maintaining control through physical restraint, assisting non‑ambulatory students, and moving adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours.
- Environment: exposure to biological hazards; may require district‑wide travel.
- Mental demands: maintain emotional control under stress.
