Director of Youth Ministry — First UMC Decatur, TX
First United Methodist Church of Decatur is seeking a passionate, Christ-centered Director of Youth Ministry to lead and grow our ministry with students in grades 6–12. This is a part-time salaried position averaging approximately 20 hours per week.
We are looking for someone who loves Jesus, loves students, and is called to help young people become lifelong disciples of Christ through faithful biblical teaching, authentic relationships, Christian fellowship, worship, prayer, service, and witness.

Position Overview
The Director of Youth Ministry provides leadership for the church's ministry with students in grades 6–12. Responsibilities include planning and leading Sunday School, Sunday evening youth, Wednesday evening youth (when in session), and other discipleship opportunities throughout the year. The Youth Director will select or compose curriculum, prepare and teach faithful biblical lessons, coordinate activities and meals, encourage students and their families, recruit and develop adult volunteers, and help plan retreats, mission trips, confirmation, fellowship events, and service opportunities.
The Youth Director also provides administrative leadership by managing the youth ministry budget, communicating regularly with families, promoting ministry opportunities, maintaining appropriate records, and collaborating with the Senior Pastor, church staff, and Youth Council. The successful candidate will foster a safe, welcoming ministry environment and ensure compliance with the church's child protection policies and Ministry Safe requirements.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a mature and growing Christian faith, a passion for making disciples of Jesus Christ, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students, parents, and volunteers. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential.
The successful candidate will uphold the unique authority of Holy Scripture, embrace the historic Christian faith and Wesleyan tradition as expressed in the doctrinal standards of The United Methodist Church, and be eager to teach and lead in harmony with the mission and ministry vision of FUMC Decatur.
Previous experience in youth ministry or Christian education is preferred. The successful candidate must complete Ministry Safe training and background checks, meet church requirements for operating church vehicles, and be willing to participate in our mental health ministry training program.
Schedule
This is a part-time salaried position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Regular responsibilities include Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening ministries (when in session), along with occasional retreats, mission trips, conferences, and other special events.
