Special Education Inclusion Paraprofessional

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements, work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Education:

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning (if college hours are not held, an academic assessment is available once hired) Valid Texas educational aide certificate (obtained once hired)

Special Knowledge and

Skills:

Ability to work with children with disabilities Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate effectively Knowledge of general office equipment

Experience:

Experience working with children preferred.

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Support and assist the teacher or teaching team with teaching duties, including working in small groups or with individual students to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy. Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with teacher's plan and school plan and assist in classroom discipline and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee.

Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students. Assist in preparing, modifying, or adapting teaching materials or equipment to individual needs of students. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

Other:
Maintain confidentiality. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases) Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
