Primary

Purpose:

The College and Career Readiness Advisor is responsible for guiding students through individualized career assessments and interest inventories as well as providing career awareness/career advisement to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special populations’ students. These duties will include coordinating college tours, connecting students with resources and scholarships, and maintaining student progress data and reports.

Minimum Qualifications (Experience/Education/Certification):

Preferred:
Experience with college and career counseling, college admissions, career planning, and employment services. Higher education admissions/advising experience.

Major

General Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive services and information resources that enable students to take active responsibility for their college and career decisions and job searches. Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
  • Equip students to make college and career plans by facilitating awareness of their work-related strengths, interests, and values and by fostering an understanding the world of work.
  • Teach campus developmental college and career curriculum consistent with the district’s guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs. Assist teachers in the teaching of college and career-related curriculum.
  • Provide individual and group college and career advising services to students.
  • Collaborate with administrators, staff, and campus departments to identify, define, and meet students’ college and career planning and placement objectives.
  • Educate the school staff, parents, and community about the college and career program through a public information program. Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Supervise the acquisition, maintenance, and dissemination of information regarding college admissions, career fields, employment opportunities, and specific employers for full-time, part-time, internship and work-study opportunities.
  • Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.
  • Develop and direct programs and services designed to equip students and alumni with the necessary job search skills and employment preparation strategies.
  • Plan college and career programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.
  • Develop and oversee marketing strategies and resources to identify and bring recruiters and potential colleges and employers on-site.
  • Plan and facilitate summer communications and activities to support graduates’ transition to post‑secondary opportunities.
  • Participate and facilitate ARD, 504, LPAC, and other meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments.
  • Follow Educator Code of Conduct & all policies, procedures, laws, and State/Federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Demands):

    Maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged use of a computer; may require work outside the normal work week; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 20 lbs.
