Job Description

The Coordinator plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, engaging, and positive experience for new students and their families during New Student Orientation programs at East Texas A&M University. This position supports the planning, coordination, and execution of orientation sessions by serving as a knowledgeable student leader and representative of the university. The Orientation Coordinator works collaboratively with Enrollment Management and Student Affairs staff, campus departments, and Orientation Team members to ensure orientation programs are well-organized, informative, and student centered.

Through exceptional customer service, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student success, the Coordinator helps ease the transition of new students to campus life while fostering excitement, connection, and Lion pride. As a student ambassador for the university, the Orientation Coordinator is expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, leadership, and enthusiasm while providing accurate information about admissions, financial aid, academic resources, student involvement opportunities, and campus support services.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing New Student Orientation programs and activities.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for new students, families, and guests during orientation events.
  • Welcome and engage participants in a friendly, and professional manner.
  • Facilitate group activities, presentations, campus tours, and transition-focused programming.
  • Provide accurate information regarding university resources, policies, and services.
  • Support event logistics including check-in, registration, room setup, materials preparation, and event breakdown.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management and Student Affairs staff, campus partners, and Orientation Team members to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Assist with recruitment and promotional efforts through campus events, marketing initiatives, social media campaigns, and photo opportunities.
  • Maintain a positive environment that reduces anxiety and encourages student engagement and success.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, school spirit, and commitment to the university community.
  • Participate in all required training sessions, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned in support of orientation and enrollment initiatives.
  • The student must be available to work throughout the summer.
Qualifications Required
  • Must be enrolled as a student at East Texas A&M University.
  • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, maturity, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Possess a positive attitude and commitment to helping students succeed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as an Orientation Leader
  • Experience with public speaking, event planning, mentoring, or customer service.
  • Familiarity with university resources, programs, and support services.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and strong school spirit.
