Position: CTE Health Science Teacher (Royal High School)
Location: Brookshire

Primary Purpose

Provide high-quality instruction in the Health Science Career Cluster that prepares students for postsecondary education, industry-based certifications, and careers in healthcare. Develop students' academic, technical, employability, and clinical-readiness skills through classroom, laboratory, simulation, and work-based learning experiences aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), district curriculum, and applicable safety and industry standards.

Qualifications

Required Certification or Licensure

Health Science Certification, Grades 9-12;

Health Science Technology Education Certification, Grades 8-12;

Vocational Health Occupations Certification;

Vocational Health Science Technology Certification; or

Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN), with eligibility to teach under applicable state and district requirements.

Additional Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Current professional healthcare license, registration, or certification when required for the assigned courses

Documented wage-earning experience in an approved healthcare occupation, as required by the Texas Education Agency for the applicable certificate or assignment

Current CPR/AED and first-aid certification, or ability to obtain within the district's required timeline

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching secondary Health Science or providing training in a healthcare setting.

Experience preparing students for industry-based certification examinations.

Experience supervising clinical, practicum, internship, or other work-based learning experiences.

Knowledge of local healthcare employers, postsecondary programs, and community partnerships.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of healthcare practices, terminology, ethics, confidentiality, infection control, and patient safety.

Knowledge of CTE program standards, TEKS-based instruction, industry-based certifications, and college and career readiness.

Ability to safely manage laboratory, simulation, clinical, and work-based learning environments.

Ability to differentiate instruction, assess student learning, and use data to improve outcomes.

Strong organization, communication, collaboration, technology, and classroom-management skills.

Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, advisory committee members, families, and community stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instruction and Student Learning

  • Develop and deliver engaging, TEKS-aligned lessons that integrate healthcare knowledge, technical skills, employability skills, and academic content.
  • Provide classroom, laboratory, simulation, and hands-on instruction using appropriate healthcare equipment, technology, and instructional resources.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate interventions, enrichment, and accommodations to meet diverse student needs.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative measures, maintain accurate records, and use results to adjust instruction.
  • Prepare students for applicable industry-based certifications, postsecondary programs, and entry-level healthcare careers.
  • Program, Laboratory, and Clinical Operations

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and industry-aligned learning environment and enforce all health, safety, sanitation, infection-control, and equipment-use procedures.
  • Maintain inventories of equipment, supplies, uniforms, instructional materials, and certification-testing resources; submit requests according to district procedures.
  • Coordinate clinical, practicum, internship, job-shadowing, and other work-based learning experiences when included in the assigned program.
  • Verify required student documentation and readiness before participation in off-campus or patient-care experiences.
  • Maintain required program records and support district, state, industry, and partner audits or reviews.
  • CTE Program Quality and Partnerships

  • Collaborate with the CTE/CCMR department to support coherent programs of study, student recruitment, course sequencing, and program improvement.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with healthcare employers, colleges, certification providers, and community organizations.
  • Participate in advisory committee activities and use stakeholder feedback and labor-market information to strengthen the program.
  • Support student participation in appropriate Career and Technical Student Organizations, leadership activities, competitions, and service opportunities.
  • Promote equitable student access, participation, completion, certification attainment, and successful transition to college or careers.
  • Professional Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly and professionally with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, counselors, and community partners.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development, CTE meetings, advisory meetings, and other required district activities.
