Primary Purpose
Provide high-quality instruction in the Health Science Career Cluster that prepares students for postsecondary education, industry-based certifications, and careers in healthcare. Develop students' academic, technical, employability, and clinical-readiness skills through classroom, laboratory, simulation, and work-based learning experiences aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), district curriculum, and applicable safety and industry standards.
QualificationsRequired Certification or Licensure
Health Science Certification, Grades 9-12;
Health Science Technology Education Certification, Grades 8-12;
Vocational Health Occupations Certification;
Vocational Health Science Technology Certification; or
Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN), with eligibility to teach under applicable state and district requirements.
Additional Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Current professional healthcare license, registration, or certification when required for the assigned courses
Documented wage-earning experience in an approved healthcare occupation, as required by the Texas Education Agency for the applicable certificate or assignment
Current CPR/AED and first-aid certification, or ability to obtain within the district's required timeline
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching secondary Health Science or providing training in a healthcare setting.
Experience preparing students for industry-based certification examinations.
Experience supervising clinical, practicum, internship, or other work-based learning experiences.
Knowledge of local healthcare employers, postsecondary programs, and community partnerships.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of healthcare practices, terminology, ethics, confidentiality, infection control, and patient safety.
Knowledge of CTE program standards, TEKS-based instruction, industry-based certifications, and college and career readiness.
Ability to safely manage laboratory, simulation, clinical, and work-based learning environments.
Ability to differentiate instruction, assess student learning, and use data to improve outcomes.
Strong organization, communication, collaboration, technology, and classroom-management skills.
Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, advisory committee members, families, and community stakeholders.
