What We’re Looking For

Are you patient, dependable, and passionate about supporting students with disabilities? We’re looking for Special Education Paraprofessionals who are ready to make a meaningful difference in the classroom.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or an associate degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, students with disabilities, or in a school setting is preferred.
  • Certification: Ability to meet applicable Texas Education Agency and district requirements for paraprofessional employment.
  • Student Support: Willingness to assist students with academic, behavioral, social, communication, and functional needs.
  • Teamwork: Ability to follow teacher direction, collaborate with campus staff, and communicate professionally with students and colleagues.
  • Additional Requirements: CPR/First Aid certification is preferred. Some assignments may require assistance with mobility, positioning, personal care, or other activities of daily living.
  • Language Proficiency: Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.
Your Role

As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you’ll work alongside special education teachers and other campus professionals to provide individualized support to students receiving special education services.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Support Individualized Education Programs: Assist teachers in implementing accommodations, modifications, instructional strategies, and other supports outlined in students’ IEPs.
  • Provide Academic Support: Work individually or in small groups with students to reinforce classroom instruction, practice skills, and encourage greater independence.
  • Support Inclusion: Assist students in general education, resource, self-contained, or other specialized classroom settings based on their individual needs.
  • Promote Positive Behavior: Help implement behavior intervention plans, reinforcement systems, de-escalation strategies, and classroom expectations under the direction of certified staff.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Assist with collecting data, documenting student performance, and sharing observations with the special education team.
  • Support Daily Living Skills: When required by a student’s individual needs, assist with mobility, transitions, feeding, toileting, personal care, or other functional activities while maintaining student dignity and privacy.
  • Encourage Independence: Provide appropriate support while helping students develop confidence, self-advocacy, communication, and independent living skills.
  • Collaborate With the Team: Work closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and other paraprofessionals to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain Student Confidentiality: Protect confidential student information and follow all district, campus, and special education policies.
