This position is governed by a local union contract.

** Roles Available:*
* + Mechanic Apprentice

+ Plant Operator Trainee

+ I&C Apprentice

** Job Duties/Responsibilities:*
* + Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.

+ Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations, and effectively apply them to all work situations.

+ Installs, maintains tests, inspects, and repairs generating station equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.

+ Replaces bearings, packing in pumps and valves, shaft seals, sleeves, seats, and other miscellaneous parts used in plant equipment.

+ Works with mechanics and skill enhancement employees to teach proper, safe use of tools and maintenance procedures.

+ Perform safety related duties such as accepting work authorizations, hot work permits, confined space entry permits, etc.

+ Ability to use hand tools (i.e. wrenches, screwdrivers, sledgehammers, etc).

+ Ability to use shop tools (i.e. power saws, drills, drill presses, and lathes).

** Minimum

Job Requirements:

*
* + High school diploma or GED

+ 2 years of military experience in mechanical maintenance repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of pumps, turbines, auxiliary equipment or engines OR machine shop equipment experience including inspection and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, fabricating and diagnostics.

+ Valid State Driver's License

+ Successful applicant must receive a rating of "recommended" on the NRG Pre-Employment Skills Assessment test.
