Solar Technician I - Ray Ranch Solar Site

As a Solar Technician I, you will support the operation and maintenance of solar power facilities at the Ray Ranch Solar Site by performing entry‑level technical tasks. You will assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining photovoltaic inverters, solar panel systems and related equipment. Your work will involve using digital tools such as SCADA, Maximo, and SAP to manage work orders, document activities, and ensure accurate reporting.
You will also be part of an on‑call rotation for outages and emergencies; therefore, you must reside within 80 miles of the site.
- Filling out permits to work, job safety plans, lock‑out tag‑out procedures, and performing last‑minute risk assessments.
- Under the supervision of senior level technicians, perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on photovoltaic inverters, solar panels, tracking systems, and other related solar plant equipment.
- Operate standard hand tools and electrical testing equipment (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, battery‑powered drills, multimeters, amp clamps).
- Complete ENGIE's Qualified Electrical Worker Competency Skills test, demonstrating application of safety critical tasks when working with AC/DC electricity.
- Understand and execute ENGIE's official job specific documentation, such as LOTO procedures, work instructions, and routine maintenance checklists.
- Create and close‑out work orders generated in the Maximo system.
- Conduct site safety orientations for OEM representatives, independent service providers, vendors, and site visitors.
- Accompany approved site visitors to ensure all individuals adhere to Engie's safety and quality standards.
- Perform LOTO and general supervision for non‑ENGIE employees as needed.
- Maintain accurate parts and tooling inventory.
- Minimum diploma or certification in a technical program with AC/DC electrical theory, reading blue prints and schematics, industrial electrical equipment or military equivalent experience, and two (2) years experience in Solar generation sites or Wind generation sites in lieu of a degree.
- General knowledge of AC/DC voltage, electrical theory, reading one‑line and three‑line schematics, and operation & maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Understanding of selecting the proper PPE for electrical work.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding switching orders.
- Obtain appropriate level of substation training and/or certifications within 12 months of hire date.
- Available for on‑call duties as required.
- A willingness to work night shifts and extended hours, often outdoors in extreme heat or cold.
- Readiness to walk, stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- This is a field position requiring regular travel to client sites.
- This role requires daily attendance at a worksite.
- Willing to travel domestically to support site operations at ENGIE's renewable modalities as needed (Solar, Wind, BESS).
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record to operate company vehicle.
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
- This position consists of 80% outdoor work; employee is exposed to weather conditions.
Hourly Range: $32.00 - $38.00 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws; actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, and other factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus or incentive plan and emergency or on‑call pay.
