The Measurement and Automation Foreman is responsible for overseeing the installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of measurement and automation systems across natural gas production and midstream assets. This role ensures accurate gas measurement, reliable data acquisition, and compliance with regulatory and contractual standards. The Foreman leads a team of technicians and works closely with engineering, operations, and SCADA teams to support safe and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Measurement Oversight
- Supervise the installation, calibration, and maintenance of gas measurement equipment including orifice meters, liquid turbine, and radio/cell communications.
- Ensure measurement accuracy and data integrity for custody transfer and allocation.
- Review and validate measurement data, reports, and discrepancies.
Automation & Controls
- Oversee the configuration, programming, and maintenance of PLCs, RTUs, and other field automation devices.
- Support the integration of field devices with SCADA systems.
- Troubleshoot communication and control issues in coordination with SCADA and Operation teams.
- Lead and schedule a team of measurement and automation technicians.
- Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and company policies.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (API, AGA)
- Maintain accurate records of calibrations, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Assist with regulatory audits and provide documentation as needed.
Project Support
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams on new facility builds and upgrades.
- Provide input on measurement and automation design specifications.
- Support commissioning and startup activities.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required, technical certification or associate degree in instrumentation, electronics, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in natural gas measurement and automation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong knowledge of gas measurement principles, AGA/API standards, and automation systems.
- Proficient in PLC/RTU programming, SCADA interfaces, and communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet, etc.).
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Working Conditions:
- Field and office environment; frequent travel to production and midstream sites.
- On-call availability for urgent measurement or automation issues.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and industrial environments.
