Section 1 – Position Summary

This position performs routine instrumentation troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repair duties requiring a basic knowledge of industrial electrical/electronic theory. Must also be knowledgeable of instrumentation equipment related to water and wastewater treatment and production equipment which may include: flow meters, analyzers, PLC’s SCADA systems, ozone generators, chemical equipment, air compressors, valve actuators, motors, variable frequency drives, and various other equipment. Individual is expected to identify instrumentation issues, troubleshoot and remedy problems using independent judgment.

2 – Major Responsibilities
  • To maintain the various water and wastewater treatment, purification and production related instrumentation equipment and facilitate repairs necessary to keep equipment operating in an efficient manner.
  • Coordinate with water and wastewater operations personnel to assure critical equipment is operational.
  • May be asked to assist other departments with various task during emergency repairs or routine maintenance.
  • Performs all routine preventative maintenance tasks as specified in the equipment operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Performs routine repair and preventative maintenance tasks on other equipment as directed.
  • Performs maintenance on other equipment as directed including Analyzers, PLC’s, Level Controls, VFD’s, Flow Meter calibrations, Radio’s, Fiber Optic Equipment, and various other types of instrumentation.
  • Observes safe work practices through proper use of safety equipment and procedures including permit required confined space entry and lock out tag out.
  • Maintains records of work performed on assets and provides follow-up reports within the work order management system.
  • Possess the skill to assist, trouble shoot and repair process and control of NTMWD SCADA systems.
  • Will be required to be on a rotational “ONCALL” status to respond to NTMWD repairs outside of normal business hours must be able to work overtime when needed.
  • Section 3 – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Must possess basic understanding of industrial instrumentation and control processes, the basics of A.C. and D.C. principles and digital circuitry.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend, carry out and administer written and oral instruction.
  • Must possess knowledge of computers, software, and hardware.
  • Must become proficient in the use of the District Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams and drawings.

    Education and Experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in troubleshooting and repair of process control and/or measurement systems and circuitry.
  • Must possess a valid Electrical Apprentice license or obtain an Electrical Apprentice license with the State of Texas within 6 months.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Section 5 – Environmental Factors, Activity Levels and Equipment

    Will be working around electricity and liquids above and below ground level. Work conditions vary from indoor to outdoor activities. Outdoor activities may involve exposure to hot, cold, dusty, dirty, and/or noisy conditions. Activities may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, crawling, climbing, kneeling, balancing, pushing, pulling, carrying, dragging up to 75 pounds of equipment. Tools to be used include hand tools, power tools, calibration and maintenance equipment, measuring devices, analog and digital equipment, oscilloscope, V.O.M., frequency generators, counters, soldering equipment, simulators, probes, office equipment and vehicles.
