The Midstream Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as a technical authority for midstream operations, with a strong focus on the chemical treatment of midstream systems. This role is responsible for providing expert guidance, supporting customers, training internal teams, driving continuous improvement and innovation across midstream offerings, and will require travel for field work to support operations as needed. The SME represents the organization as a technical leader both internally and externally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Expertise & Operations- Serve as the subject matter expert in midstream systems, including pipelines, terminals, compression, dehydration, storage, and related infrastructure.
- Provide expert knowledge and application of chemical treatment programs for corrosion control, flow assurance, sour fluids, fouling, and other midstream challenges.
- Evaluate system performance, diagnose operational issues, and recommend optimized chemical and operational solutions through field visits and system analyses.
- Collaborate with R&D, product management, and operations teams to develop and refine solutions for midstream applications.
- Develop and deliver technical training programs for internal employees, including field personnel, engineers, and sales teams.
- Mentor team members and support the development of technical competencies across the organization.
- Create and maintain technical training materials, guidelines, and best practices.
- Ensure technical documentation is accurate, clear, and aligned with industry standards.
- Interact with customers to understand operational needs and provide technical consultation.
- Deliver technical presentations explaining solutions, results, and value propositions.
- Support sales and account teams by providing technical credibility during customer meetings and proposals.
- Continually assess and improve midstream chemical treatment offerings and service approaches.
- Actively participate in industry conferences, technical forums, and professional organizations related to midstream operations through panels, presentations, and technical discussions.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies relevant to midstream systems and stay current on innovations, new technologies, and evolving best practices.
- Author and review technical reports, white papers, case studies, and application guidelines.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, such as chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline. Advanced certifications or degrees would be advantageous.
- Extensive industry experience and expertise in midstream chemical treating, with a focus on practical applications in oil and gas operations.
- In-depth knowledge of chemical treating processes, including corrosion inhibition, scale control, hydrate prevention, and microbial control.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices, such as DOT, AMPP, API, ASTM, EPA, and regulatory requirements for chemical handling and environmental compliance.
- Ability to obtain Operator Qualification (OQ) Certification and be willing to travel to the field up to 25-30% of the time, which could include overnight out-of-town travel.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with Company policy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations, identify underlying issues, and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey technical concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing and optimizing chemical treating programs in midstream operations, achieving measurable results in terms of operational efficiency, asset integrity, and cost savings.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Professional certifications, such as NACE Certified Corrosion Technologist (CCT), Certified Industrial Microbiologist (CIM), or Certified Water Treatment Specialist (CWTS), Certified Treating Specialist (CTS) or Certified Midstream Professional (CMP), would be desirable.
- Must complete and pass all required pre-employment screenings.
