Job Summary

As an entry-level Field Engineer, you will provide subcontractors with information and direction, as outlined within contract specifications, to allow the work to proceed as scheduled. You will have authority to interpret technical requirements and provide solutions in conjunction with the Civil Project Discipline Engineer and Discipline Superintendent, and under the direction and guidance of the Site Manager, to provide drawings and data, and to direct work as assigned and consistent with Company’s contractual commitments.

You may perform subcontract administration of Civil specific or assigned procurements.

Key Responsibilities Engineering Standards
  • Develop familiarity by reading, understanding and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies and procedures.
Quality / Continuous Improvement
  • Develop an understanding and comply with the Black and Veatch quality program.
  • Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
Engineering Production
  • Contribute to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
  • Perform routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work.
  • Prepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analysis.
  • Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
Project Coordination
  • Share information with others as requested.
  • Coordinate with others when directed by supervisor or project leadership.
Client Focus
  • Focus on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain a basic understanding of the external client’s main interests and drivers.
  • May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology
  • Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes.
Preferred Qualifications

Anticipating a December 2025 graduate to start at the end of Q1.

GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.

Passed FE exam preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Environment/Physical Demands

This position will initially be located on a field project site. Must be willing to relocate. Must have reliable transportation. This position will transition to a full-time office role once the field project site role is complete.

  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  • See and hear naturally or with correction.
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure.
  • Requires repetitive movement.
  • Work up to a 10 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
