For over 30 years, Raytheon operates and maintains the Navy’s three Relocatable Over The Horizon Radars (ROTHR). Each radar consists of a remote transmit and receive site. All radars are operated from the Consolidated Operations Control Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. Each radar is capable of covering over four million square miles across the Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, Central, and South America with all systems manned and operated 24 hours a day.
The ROTHR mission is primarily to track and report the movement of aircraft and ships carrying illicit narcotics from South America toward Central America and the United States.
- Perform systems level operation and monitoring of ROTHR receiver site equipment. Perform organizational, preventative and intermediate level maintenance on ROTHR receiver site and communications equipment, consisting of Phased Array Antennae, RF Hardware, Digital Hardware, Microprocessors, Minicomputers, PC farms and peripheral equipment.
- Work typically requires comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting and using the appropriate resources and test equipment.
- Receives technical guidance and tasking from supervisor or higher-level technician and work is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices. Candidate will perform all other related duties as assigned and required.
- Typically requires Graduate in Electronic or Electrical Engineering Technology from technical institute above high school with a minimum curriculum length of two years or Military Technical School with minimum curriculum length of six months.
- Must have two years of related experience. Ability to use test equipment and systematic procedures for troubleshooting, overhaul, fault isolation, and repair of major electronic systems comprised of receiver and transmitter functions.
- Must have a clean motor vehicle driving record to obtain authorization to drive company vehicles.
- The selected candidate may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued DoD Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance and to obtain any required Export Authorization.
- At least one year of technician experience in assembly, overhaul, repair, modification, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of communications, radar or digital electronics systems of the same complexity and magnitude as ROTHR.
- Previous or current security clearance.
