Position: Test Technician I (M–Th, 6PM to 6AM) (El Paso, TX → Midland, TX)
Location: Van Horn

AST Space Mobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space, operating directly with unmodified mobile devices. The company is guided by an extensive IP and patent portfolio and serves both commercial and government markets.

Position Overview

We are seeking an Environmental Test Technician I to support environmental testing activities, including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, and acoustic testing. The Technician I will perform test setup, execution, and documentation under general supervision and will focus on ensuring product integrity, safety, and compliance with aerospace and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, acoustic) with guidance as needed.
  • Set up and operate test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems following established procedures.
  • Execute test plans and SOPs with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Assist with test configuration, fixturing, and instrumentation installation.
  • Monitor tests, accurately record data, and identify/report anomalies or deviations.
  • Troubleshoot routine test issues and escale more complex problems as required.
  • Document test results, observations, and non-conformances in accordance with quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Support equipment upkeep, basic maintenance, and calibration activities.
  • Collaborate with technicians and engineers to support successful test execution.
  • Maintain organized work areas and proper test documentation.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of relevant hands‑on technical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to environmental test methods (thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, acoustic).
  • Basic familiarity with test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test procedures.
  • Foundational troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
Soft Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Effective time management and task prioritization.
  • Willingness to learn and grow technical capability.
Technology Stack
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with test data systems and documentation tools preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work in and near large structures, equipment, and tooling.
  • Ability to lift, push, or carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Ability to work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in environments with potential fumes, airborne particles, or hazardous materials.
Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay: DOE, hour based on experience, with overtime opportunities. Higher-level roles are available for more experienced candidates.
  • Schedule:

    Shift 1 – Monday through Thursday, 6 AM to 6 PM (4×10) with paid lunch and breaks.
  • Flexibility:
    Night and weekend shifts with increased pay are available based on experience and team needs.
