Position Title: Lead Process Safety Engineer
Job Summary: Responsible for managing the site Process Safety Management (PSM) Program. Key responsibilities include planning and completing Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for the facility, driving closure of PHA action items, executing projects to close gaps identified during the PHA process, improving site process safety management systems, ensuring compliance with all AIMS HESQ policies and related regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, TCEQ), tracking and reporting site process safety metrics, and facilitating a healthy audit program at the Clear Lake site.
- Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) — Fulfill the roles of the PHA Leader for all site PHAs, ensuring schedule compliance and timely closure of recommendations.
- Management of Change (MOC) — Own the local MOC system, audit compliance, and manage a team of about 10 auditors to close MOC action items.
- Safety Critical Safeguards (SCS) — Own the site SCS list, develop and maintain the evergreen system for testing and review schedules.
- Process Safety Information — Keep all P&, PRD, procedures, SCS list, PHA, and MOC documents up‑to‑date and compliant.
- Alarm Management — Maintain an evergreen alarm management program in collaboration with the team.
- Risk Management Plan (RMP) — Monitor 40 CFR 68 and local changes that may trigger RMP applicability for Clear Lake.
- AIMS Compliance — Ensure compliance with AIMS requirements related to process safety and address identified gaps promptly.
- PSE Reduction Team — Lead the PSE reduction team, set annual goals, and achieve continual improvement.
- PSE Investigations — Lead or participate in investigations that meet local or corporate triggers, ensuring S.M.A.R.T. action items are closed on time.
- Process Safety Culture — Drive a culture of compliance, reporting of near‑misses, proactive approaches, and positive recognition.
- OSHA PSM Compliance — Lead OSHA PSM compliance, including the VPP program.
- Process Safety Resources — Manage recurring and spot contractors for calculations (pressure relief, SIL) and specific assessments, averaging 2‑3 full‑time equivalents.
- Matrix Management — Serve as matrix manager for process engineers on all process safety topics.
- Process Safety Audits — Audit all site processes related to process safety such as seal inspections, pressure relief testing, SCS testing, fire equipment, startup permits, and PSSR.
Minimum Qualifications and
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of overall experience, preferably within a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Frequent site visits for inspections and work within industrial chemical manufacturing perimeter.
- Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during onsite and in‑field activities.
