The Lab Technician position is responsible for preparing, evaluating, and testing materials, including polymeric and metallic materials, used in downhole tools for the Completions Business Line.
Roles And Responsibilities- Conduct routine laboratory activities with minimal guidance and supervision within established procedures and support the laboratory in preparing and testing polymeric and metallic materials.
- Perform mechanical, thermal, physical and microstructural characterization in support of material qualification, product development and failure analysis
- Document test procedures and results, communicate findings, and collaborate with engineers and scientists to support project objectives
- Coordinate laboratory activities, maintain work instructions and risk assessments, and ensure a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and compliance with safety requirements
- Associate degree in Material Science, Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences, Metallurgy or a relevant field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to coordinate and perform multiple/concurrent tasks in an accurate, efficient and timely manner.
- Hands-on experience with materials characterization techniques and instrumentation, such as tensile testing equipment, hardness testers and other laboratory instruments
- Knowledge of safe operation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory testing equipment and proper handling of laboratory chemicals.
- Ability to learn new techniques and processes for characterizing polymeric and metallic materials.
- Effective team member with communication and basic computer skills critical to document tests.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Sciences and Engineering, Polymer Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant fields
- Experience with polymeric materials, particularly elastomer, testing and qualification.
- Experience with metallography, optical microscopy, and microstructural analysis.
- Experience with thermal analysis techniques such as DSC, TMA, and TGA.
- Familiarity with aging, corrosion testing and materials qualification programs
- Knowledge of failure analysis techniques for polymeric and metallic components.
- Working knowledge of ASTM, ISO, and industry standard materials testing methods.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment with a strong focus on 5S, laboratory safety, equipment maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
