Position PurposeResponsible for performing a broad variety of financial services, including opening, closing, and maintaining accounts, renewing time deposit accounts, and assisting clients with inquiries, maintenance, and problem resolution. In collaboration with the Teller Supervisor, the Personal Banker develops, trains, and motivates lobby associates to provide excellent customer service and effectively cross‑sell bank products and services. Must have extensive knowledge of all deposit and loan products and services, identify sales opportunities, and strive to meet related goals.
EssentialFunctions and Basic Duties
- Financial Service Functions
- Present and explain bank products and services to clients, assisting in meeting their financial needs (checking, savings, time deposits, IRA, safe deposit boxes, savings bonds, credit cards, and basic consumer loans).
- Answer questions and solve problems by listening, collecting data, and providing solutions.
- Profile clients to identify sales opportunities and use lead lists and other strategies to generate additional business.
- Client Relations
- Resolve client requests and questions promptly, courteously, and professionally.
- Process new client accounts and changes to existing accounts (name, address, product, other maintenance). Maintain privacy of customer information and uphold the bank’s professional reputation.
- Collaboration with Area Personnel and Management
- Assist area personnel as required; keep the Banking Center Manager informed of area activities and significant problems.
- Complete required reports and records accurately and promptly; attend meetings, training classes, and special projects (e.g., key‑box audits).
- Review new account data entry as needed, support Treasury Management with new accounts, and ensure daily logs are completed correctly and organized at month‑end.
- Additional Duties
- Actively sell bank products and services, meeting sales production goals.
- Perform related clerical duties as needed; keep work area clean, secure, and well‑maintained.
- Financial service functions performed efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
- Professional client and area relationships maintained; issues resolved courteously and promptly.
- Accurate, complete, and timely reports and records submitted.
- Consistent efforts to develop new client relationships and strengthen existing ones by identifying cross‑sell opportunities.
- Bank’s professional reputation upheld.
- Education/Certification: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Required Knowledge: Good understanding of financial services and products.
- Experience: Zero to three years of new account experience.
- Requirements (Training Programs): Completion of Personal Banker Mentor Program or Personal Banker Learning Plan;
Teller Learning Plan if applicable;
Understanding the Caller Identification Process and Secure Code; BPM Training I–IV;
Docu Sign training; other operational training listed below. - Operational
Competencies:
Open consumer and commercial checking & savings accounts, issue debit cards, clear DDA exceptions, cross‑sell products, process credit cards, check orders, domestic wire transfers, handle denial exceptions, identify fraud, assist on teller line, close accounts, approve service charge waivers, input debit card disputes, complete online banking tasks, and other duties assigned by the Banking Center Manager. - Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication and public‑relations skills; professional appearance and attitude; ability to operate related computer applications and equipment (10‑key, telephone); solid math and bookkeeping abilities.
