Job Description:

Role:
Director of Origination – Maritime & Offshore Investment Banking

Location:

Athens, Greece

Role Overview As Director of Origination for the Maritime & Offshore Investment Banking practice in Athens, you will lead the sourcing, structuring and origination of new mandates within the shipping, offshore and transport sectors. Reporting to the Managing Partners or Head of the Practice, you will drive business growth, build relationships across the maritime ecosystem and design innovative financing and/or advisory solutions.

You will also collaborate with deal teams on execution while maintaining a strong origination focus.

Key Responsibilities Lead origination of new business: identify ship-owner groups, asset managers, investors, service companies and other conventional maritime and offshore participants to generate mandates for debt, equity, hybrid financing, M&A and restructuring.

Develop and maintain a strong network of relationships: shipping companies (owners/operators), banks, direct lending funds, private equity, leasing and asset finance institutions, technical advisors and institutional investors.

Design financing and advisory solutions: propose structuring ideas, capital markets access, hybrid instruments and alternative financing tailored to maritime/offshore clients.

Work with the wider Maritime & Offshore team to develop pitch-books, teasers, client proposals and investment memoranda focused on origination opportunities.

Collaborate with execution teams (VPs, Associates, Analysts) to ensure smooth hand-off from origination to execution; provide strategic insight on deal opportunities.

Monitor market trends in shipping, offshore, energy transition (e.g., ESG, decarbonisation, specialised assets) and identify new segments or product ideas.

Represent Alantra at industry conferences, seminars, forums and client events; publish thought leadership pieces or insights relevant to maritime/offshore financing.

Support revenue generation targets, manage pipeline, track origination metrics and contribute to the overall growth strategy of the practice.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements7–12+ years of origination/business development and investment banking experience, ideally within the shipping, offshore, transport, oil & gas or asset finance sectors.

Demonstrated track record of sourcing, originating and winning mandates (debt/equity/hybrid) in maritime/offshore or adjacent industries.

Deep network in the maritime shipping ecosystem — ship-owners, financiers, leasing houses, investors, technical advisors.

Strong structuring and commercial skills: ability to design financing solutions, tailor product stacks, negotiate term‐sheets and interface with investors/lenders.

Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to influence senior clients and stakeholders; fluent in English. Greek is a strong plus.

Entrepreneurial mindset: self-starter, proactive in identifying new opportunities, comfortable working in a fast-moving cross‐border environment.

Team collaboration and leadership: while origination is the focus, you will interface with execution teams and senior management, so organisational, coordination and mentoring skills are needed.

What We Offer Exposure to high-profile international maritime and offshore assignments, operating in one of the world’s leading shipping hubs.

Opportunity to build and shape a growing practice within a global investment banking platform.

A dynamic and entrepreneurial culture with direct access to senior leadership and decision-makers.

Competitive compensation aligned to performance, with career progression opportunities within the maritime/offshore vertical.
