Location: Selma
Compensation
- $5,000 Sign on Bonus (paid upon completing the Field Training Officer program)
- Salary: $67,045 annually
- Overtime: 1½-time hourly rate
- PTO accrual begins immediately at 4.50 hrs per pay period (eligible for use after probation)
- Holiday pay: 14 city holidays plus 1 floating holiday per year
- Retirement:
Texas Municipal Retirement System (City contribution 2-to-1) with a 20‑year requirement - Certification stipend: $25/month for Intermediate, $50/month for Advanced, $100/month for Master
- Longevity: $120 annually for each full year of service, distributed evenly across pay periods
- Uniform, weapon, and equipment furnished by the department
- Employee medical, dental, and vision insurance paid by the city; short‑term and long‑term disability also paid by the city
- Paid training: approximately 175 hours of department training per cycle
- 12‑hour shifts rotating on a 2‑week cycle, allowing a 3‑day weekend every other weekend
- Field Training Program: 12 weeks (duration varies based on progress)
- In‑service training paid by the department with Chief of Police approval
- Vehicle:
Ford Explorer SUV equipped with laptop, Watch Guard digital video with bodycams, 12‑gauge shotgun, and AED - Personal firearms: AR‑15 patrol rifle and Active Shooter Body Armor Rifle Kit
- Perform patrol duties, maintain visibility of police presence, search for suspicious activity, conduct field interviews of suspected offenders, and make arrests
- Respond to emergency calls and routine complaints, assist Fire and EMS during emergencies
- Conduct traffic enforcement, issue citations, and report statistical data on traffic violations
- Complete administrative duties: case reports, paperwork, documentation, and preparing reports and correspondence
- Investigate traffic accidents, obtain verbal accounts, block off traffic as needed, and file accident reports
- Engage in community‑oriented programs, interacting with the public positively and non‑confrontationally
- High school diploma or equivalent
- No previous experience required; must hold a Basic Peace Officer License (TCOLE) and a valid driver’s license
- Must meet TCOLE requirements and already possess at least a Basic Peace Officer License on file
- Basic technical knowledge and analytical judgment appropriate for the role
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills
