Officers protect the city's residents and property by providing police services during assigned shifts.
Officers respond to emergency calls and routine complaints, investigate incidents, and complete administrative and incident reports. Work is performed within a supportive environment that values collaboration, innovation, and dedication. This position reports to the Police Sergeant. This position does not supervise any other position.

- Advanced Peace Officer - $100/month
- Master Peace Officer - $150/month

Primary
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency calls, routine complaints and disturbances, and take necessary action
- Ensure that appropriate vehicles, personnel, and equipment arrive safely at the emergency scene
- Direct and coordinate emergency scene activity until relieved of command by a superior officer
- Enforce city statutes and ordinances, state laws and policies, for which the Police Department is accountable
- Direct traffic, escort traffic, operate traffic speed enforcement equipment, and issue traffic warnings and citations
- Investigate criminal activity, traffic collisions, and emergency incidents
- Question suspects, serve warrants, and take statements and complaints from citizens and witnesses
- Keep records of activities, prepare, submit and file reports related to criminal acts and calls for service
- Attend training to improve job performance and meet certification requirements
- Patrol an assigned area by vehicle, alone or as a two-person team
- Approach suspects of illegal activity; pursue and, if required, exert the force necessary to apprehend, detain, or control the suspect for the purpose of making an arrest or preserving the peace and maintaining law and order
- Appear and testify in court as required
- Share information and work with other police agencies and other shifts as directed and as appropriate
- Prepare and submit arrest and activity reports to the shift supervisor
- Prepare and present educational programs to members of the public
- Provide assistance and guidance to new recruits, which may include full training of new police officers
- Provide information and assistance to members of the community and visitors
- Foster positive police department – community relations
- Has appropriate frequent contact with other police department employees, other agencies involved in the criminal justice system, other organizations, schools, youth, and members of the public
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Licenses or Certifications before application:
- Basic Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE)
Public Safety and Security: rules and regulations for the protection of people, data, and property, including the use of weapons and force
Office Software: current word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs used by the city
