The City of Lampasas is currently accepting applications for the position of Building Official.
Summary of PositionOversees the Building Official Department; oversees all building related inspections and compliance; prepares and administers annual department budgets; assists City Management, City Council, Planning and Zoning, Zoning Board of Adjustments and Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals, and serves as Floodplain Administrator.
Salary range is $67,500.00 to $85,000.00 annually, DOQ, plus excellent benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- o Receives, reviews, and verifies the accuracy of city construction permits; issue permits; conducts plan reviews;
- o Ensures compliance with city building and construction codes, including conducting inspections, investigating complaints, and addressing violations;
- o Ensures compliance with city building laws and regulations, including addressing customer inquiries, and reviewing related documents;
- o Reviews construction and land development plans to ensure compliance with state and local codes and ordinances, including issuing permits, Certificates of Occupancy, and stop work orders as necessary;
- o Investigates complaints related to city nuisance ordinances;
- o Reviews and makes recommendations on city land use issues;
- o Acts as Coordinator and Manager for substandard and dangerous building compliance, violations and abatement;
- o Prepares and monitors department budgets, including ordering supplies and preparing purchase orders;
- o Administers flood plain ordinance;
- o Works with architects and engineers to ensure compliance with state and local codes and ordinances, including giving notification on building and structural problems and presenting requirements for meeting city standards;
- o Attends meetings and prepares various reports related to city building code issues; and
- o Prepares letters and files complaints related to violations of city codes and ordinances.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of: principles and practices of building construction; local building and zoning codes and ordinances; and principles of land use and planning.
Skill/Ability to: inspect construction and building sites; read manuals, letters, and memos; read and interpret diagrams; interpret policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
Acceptable Experience and Training- o High school graduation, or its equivalent, at least five years of building inspection experience;
- o or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- o Valid Texas Drivers’ License
- o Valid Code Compliance and training certifications including but not limited to:
- - State of Texas Plumbing Inspector License;
- - Building Official Certification through recognized program
Applicants must be able to pass a physical and drug screen, and background check.
