Location: Aubrey

This is a command rank police officer appointed by the Chief of Police. This position serves as the coordinator of the training function of the Department and effectively plans, organizes, coordinates, directs and/or otherwise supervises and manages departmental personnel, activities, and resources at the divisional level while performing in the training function.

  • Provides effective control and coordination of resources and activities within the shift or section to which assigned.
  • Patrols public roadways to promote traffic safety and enhance the quality of life throughout the community.
  • Investigates crime and pursues leads to promote safety and enhance the quality of life throughout the community.
  • Promotes a positive image in performing community-policing duties (community meetings, beat health issues, problem-solving resources, etc.).
  • Provides a high level of supervision, training, and direction to assigned personnel, and is competent in meeting all facets of the essential duties and responsibilities of a Police Officer as defined in the Police Officer job description.
  • Performs continual inspections of operational and administrative functions and activities to identify inefficient or ineffective processes and provides workable solutions.
  • Coordinates activities with subordinates and other departmental personnel to ensure consistency in interpretation and implementation of administrative orders, Town ordinances, policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Develops the knowledge, skills, and abilities of subordinates to enhance their probability of success.
  • Researches current police officer, law enforcement, and supervisory practices, techniques, and methods, and changing laws to develop lesson plans.
  • Facilitates classroom and field training sessions, using carious instructional techniques like lectures, simulations, and role- playing, while ensuring a safe training environment.
  • Adheres to personnel, departmental, and safety policies, procedures, and administrative orders.
  • Conducts summary disciplinary investigations and provides coaching, counseling, and training as needed.
  • Informs supervisor of all work activities.
  • Performs other duties which may be specific to section or specialized assignment.
  • Coordinates all Department training and maintains training records and equipment.
  • Responsible for personnel development through:
    • Individual training plans,
    • On-Boarding new hires
  • Maintains employees' personnel files and TCOLE files.
  • Manages the department’s recruiting efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years as a sworn police officer.
  • Internal candidates must meet all other requirements as defined by Aubrey Police Department policy.
  • External candidates must have five (5) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience exclusive of field training with a minimum of two (2) years as a police sergeant.
  • Must be eligible for certification as a Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCOLE).
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Intermediate Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, and driving record must comply with City policy.
PREFERENCES:
  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in a management or law enforcement related field preferred.
  • Experience with obtaining/maintaining State or National Accreditation for a Police Department preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience with and commitment to Community Oriented Policing.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Frequent sitting, talking, seeing, hearing, and manual dexterity.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
  • Work is typically performed in a standard office environment.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Must pass a criminal history check.
  • Must pass motor vehicle records check.
