Purpose:
To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary
Purpose:
Plan, provide and supervise speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice or language disorders. Asses students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems of impairments that interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited
college or university (or related area)
Valid Texas License as Speech Pathologist or Texas Speech Therapy Language Certificate
Experience:
Externship in the clinical/educational setting in the areas of language, fluency, voice, hearing and articulation
Experience with Medical Reimbursement
Knowledge/
Skills:
Skill in the tests and measurements used to assess communication disorders
Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech language disorders and conditions Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned
Ability to utilize computers and related technology
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
* Identify children whose speech or language impairments interfere with learning.
* Diagnose and appraise specific speech or language impairments in the areas of language, articulation, voice and fluency (students age 3-22).
* Generate written diagnostic reports with diagnosis and recommendations.
* Develop draft individual plans (IEP) to submit to Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee.
* Conduct and coordinate ARD meetings for initial speech referrals and/or identified speech impaired students at designated campuses.
* Referral medical or other professional attention necessary for the rehabilitation of speech language impairments.
* Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in the IEP.
* Utilize and maintain assistive technology.
* Document students through ongoing evaluation and provide progress reports to parents and determine readiness for termination of services.
* Demonstrate swallowing strategies or precautions to students, family of staff.
* Provide counseling and guidance to parents, students and teachers regarding speech and language impairments.
* Develop and maintain a daily schedule of services.
* Maintain individual students' records as required by local, state and federal guidelines.
* Keep informed about current legislation, educational developments, literature and research in speech language pathology.
* Maintain hearing devices at maximum operational levels on those students requiring these devices.
* Implement SHARS plan for Medicaid reimbursement.
* Maintain confidentiality of all student information and all aspects of the special education department.
* Perform other duties pertaining to special education as assigned by the Special Education Director.
