Job Summery
The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures to collect blood specimens from patients. They ensure the accuracy of patient identification, label and handle specimens appropriately, and maintain a safe and sterile environment during blood collection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures according to established protocols.
- Verify patient identity and ensure accurate labeling of specimens.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure the safety of patients and healthcare providers.
- Properly label and store collected specimens for transportation to the laboratory.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation of collected samples.
- Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner to explain procedures, alleviate concerns, and provide clear instructions.
- Ensure phlebotomy equipment is clean, calibrated, and in good working order.
- Monitor and restock supplies as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of phlebotomy procedures, including patient information, collection times, and any complications.
- Work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate specimen collection and processing.
- Follow all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
