Description

Job Summary:

The Acute Care Nursing Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight for the Acute Care unit and Infusions unit. This role ensures high-quality, evidence-based nursing care, promotes staff development, and supports efficient patient throughput. In addition, the supervisor oversees the Infusions Program, ensuring safe, compliant, and timely delivery of outpatient and inpatient infusion services. The role serves as a liaison between nursing staff, providers, ancillary departments, and hospital leadership to maintain smooth and coordinated operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to acute care nursing staff across all shifts.
  • Monitor daily staffing, adjust assignments based on acuity and census, and maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Assist in developing and updating unit-specific policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor quality metrics (falls, infections, med errors, call light responsiveness) and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and supply needs for the acute care and infusion unit.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Within the nursing scope of practice, provide medical care, assessment, and treatment; educate patients about their conditions; and, provide emotional support to patients and families.
  • Accurately and timely document in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Employ the rights of medication administration.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular rounding on patients and staff to ensure safety, quality, and service excellence.
  • Collaborate with providers to address clinical concerns, barriers to care, and discharge planning.
  • Perform other related duties to benefit the mission of the organization.

Infusions Program Oversight

  • Coordinate scheduling, staffing, and workflow for outpatient and inpatient infusion services.
  • Ensure safe administration of biologics, antibiotics, iron infusions, hydration therapy, and other specialty treatments.
  • Maintain documentation standards, medication handling, and patient education processes.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for referral sources, providers, and patients utilizing the infusion program assist with marketing of the service line.
  • Track infusion volumes, productivity, and billing accuracy to support program growth.

Staff Development & Education

  • Provide mentoring, performance evaluations, and corrective action when needed.
  • Identify learning needs and coordinate ongoing education for acute care and infusion staff.
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new nurses and support personnel.
  • Foster professional growth through promoting certifications, competencies, and leadership development.
  • Cross train staff between the acute care unit and infusion unit.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to critically think, assess situations, problem solve, and make educated decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate as a leader.
  • Understanding of management and financial practices in nursing operations.
  • Conflict Resolution: identifying early signs of tension, encouraging empathy, acting as a mediator

Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to:
    Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Technology skills: maintaining electronic medical record and ability to learn/use associated healthcare software
  • Proficient in using various medical devices and technology
  • Intermediate math skills

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in nursing required; bachelor degree preferred.
  • Valid RN license to work in Texas
  • BLS, ACLS
  • At least 3 years of previous nursing experience required; supervisory experience preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
