Substance Abuse Counselor I, II – Substance Use Treatment Use Program – Johnston Unit (037276, 037238, 037962, 037281, 037257, 037277) – EXTENDED.

Job Summary

Performs highly complex substance use counseling work. Work involves treatment, rehabilitation, and reentry for rehabilitating inmates in a substance use treatment or rehabilitation program; and training others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions
  • Interview, screen, and assess inmates for service needs and potential program participation; develop and implement treatment plans; participate in educational groups; and develop a reentry plan in compliance with Substance Use Treatment Program standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide substance use counseling and recovery skills training; monitor the operation of peer support and twelve-step recovery groups; and compile related data and documentation.
  • Compile data and prepare and submit correspondence, reports, and other documents; maintain inmate records and reports pertaining to services provided, inmate progress, and workload statistics.
  • Conduct substance use program orientation sessions; conduct training programs, workshops, and seminars; and present educational programs on substance use.
  • Implement follow-up, after care, and reentry plans for inmates that participate in the program prior to their release; make relevant appointments and disseminate information on community resources for inmate placement in follow‑up treatment.
  • Present programming, training, education, clinical groups and sessions via virtual platform as required.
  • * Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
Credentials and Licensing

Selected applicants without required license(s) must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement that will remain in effect only until the initially established expiration date. Failure to comply with this contingency statement will result in separation from employment. Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extended or renewed as a result of an employee's separation from employment or acceptance of another position.

Salary

Salary: $3,800.80 (RET 2.5% Less)
