Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
:
Answers emergency calls and makes patient transfers. Administers first aid to patients in emergency situations providing maximum patient comfort. Relays pertinent information to dispatcher concerning patient condition and maintains necessary patient records of ambulance service. Maintains vehicles and equipment in optimum condition. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I. Operates on a 48/96 schedule.
- A. Operates emergency vehicles and ensures proper maintenance.
- Drives ambulance at a manageable speed.
- Follows safety procedures ensuring safe transfer of patients to medical facilities.
- Maintains ambulance and equipment in optimum operating condition by daily cleaning and checks.
- Notifies supervisor of needed maintenance.
- B. Assists in removing sick and injured patients from various difficult positions and situations.
- Uses prudent methods, always considering patient injuries and danger.
- Administers first aid according to hospital protocols.
- Reassures patient and respects rights and religious beliefs.
- Provides appropriate care for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients based on knowledge of growth and development.
- Assesses and interprets data on patients to identify age‑specific needs and provides required care per departmental policy.
- C. Performs clerical duties.
- Obtains patient information via interview and observation, relays via radio.
- Maintains dispatching records per form guidelines.
- Obtains patient information necessary for billing.
- Completes all reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- D. Maintains appropriate supplies.
- Ensures restocking after each call to maintain adequate supplies.
- Verifies supplies are not expired and equipment is in proper condition.
- A. Education:
High school graduate or equivalent. - B. Personal job-related skills:
Verbal and written communication skills; familiarity with operation of emergency medical vehicles and equipment; ability to adhere to guidelines. - C. Licensure, registry or certification:
Current certification/license by Texas Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic, current driver's license, Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association. - D. Experience:
- Prior work experience:
One year working in an emergency medical environment. - Technical training:
Training in Texas Department of State Health Services certified/licensing program. - E. Physical and mental requirements:
Duties require intermittent walking, sitting, standing. Bending, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 150 lbs, pushing, pulling, carrying patients with equipment. Some circumstances require ability to withstand heights, prolonged travel, stress, hostile environments.
- A. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters daily.
- B. Promotes good public relations within the community while working with patients, families, medical staff, personnel, law officials, fire department personnel and others.
- C. Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Healthcare System.
- D. Keeps station and units clean.
- E. Follows standard operating procedures and protocols.
