What will I be doing?
As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists, engineers, and researchers to develop medical automation research solutions. Your work will involve biomedical projects related to automating combat casualty care, such as automating ultrasound image interpretation, testing automated medical systems through animal and human studies, and developing custom human tissue phantoms for laboratory research.

- Conducting human and animal translational research studies
- Curating and annotating large medical datasets for machine‑learning algorithms
- Developing medical tissue phantoms for ultrasound imaging tasks
- Analyzing large datasets for medical trends to inform automation technology
- Preparing manuscripts for peer‑reviewed research journals

Appointment lengthTwelve‑month research appointment, possibly renewable pending funding, project assignment, program rules, and personnel availability.
Provisions- Stipend determined by USAISR based on academic standing, discipline, experience, and location

Qualified candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in any discipline listed in the opportunity’s eligibility criteria and be a current faculty member at an accredited institution of higher education.
