Job Overview
Behavioral Health Special III – Behavioral Support role in the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) at the Mexia State Supported Living Center. The position provides direct behavioral support services to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, participates in assessment, data collection, and training, and works under the supervision of a Board Certified, Licensed Behavior Analyst.
Responsibilities- Conducts behavioral observations and functional assessments, data analysis, and plans development.
- Provides training, modeling, and supervision of staff in behavior support plans, psychiatric support plans, and skill acquisition plans.
- Monitors and evaluates implementation of plans and ensures accurate documentation and progress reporting.
- Performs quality assurance and quality enhancement activities related to behavioral health service provision.
- Assists in coordination and review of psychotropic medications, ensuring adequate non-pharmacological supports.
- Provides documentation, including data, graphs, and progress notes, reflecting treatment response.
- Acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team and unit teams, providing behavioral health information and perspectives.
- Assists with planning, assigning duties, and providing technical assistance to staff.
- Maintains current knowledge in behavioral analysis and behavioral health services, training techniques, and relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
- Performs special assignments as requested, including disaster response or continuity of operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, education, applied behavior analysis, or related discipline.
- Eligibility to pursue board certification as a behavior analyst upon hire is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience delivering behavioral analysis and behavioral health services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities, applicable laws, regulations, and agency policy.
- Knowledge of applied behavior analysis and behavior support plan development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ability to administer discipline‑specific assessments (intelligence, adaptive behavior).
- Ability to train staff in behavior support plan implementation and basic psychological/behavioral concepts.
- Ability to work within a model of professional supervision and make decisions within broad guidelines.
- Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team, organize, prioritize work, and complete duties with moderate supervision.
- Pass background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, LEIE).
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and flexible hours as required.
