Position Summary:

Plans, organizes and directs food production, preparation, and service for Mitchell County nursing and Rehabilitation. Establishes policies and procedures and departmental objectives. Supervises department personnel and all functions including food service to residents, staff members and the public.

Qualifications:
  • Education:

    High School graduate or equivalent, Associate or higher degree in restaurant management, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Personal

    Job-Related Skills:

    Leadership and management abilities and effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of food service operations.
  • Licensure, Registry or Certification:
    Ability to qualify as a Certified Member of the Dietary Managers Association.
  • Prior

    Work Experience:

    Five years’ experience in hospital food service or a related field.
  • Technical Training:
    None required.
  • Physical and Mental Requirements:

    Duties of the position require extended periods of walking and standing. Some bending, stooping, and reaching food items and equipment. Pushing and pulling of food carts and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Duties, Responsibilities, and

Skills:

A. Manages the preparation and service of nutritional food.

  • 1. In coordination with the Dietitian prepares regular and resident menus.
  • 2. Assures physician’s orders concerning patient diets are followed.
  • 3. Monitors the sanitary conditions in food handling and preparation and compliance with infection control procedures.
  • 4. Requests comments from residents and staff concerning the flavor, appearance and temperature of menu items and their views on the service provided.
  • B.Manages the procuring of food items and other supplies and maintains cost and revenue records.

  • 1. Purchases or recommends the purchase of all supplies for the department.
  • 2. Establishes and maintains contacts with suppliers and vendors.
  • 3. Keeps essential records including menus, purchase orders, and food cost and revenue reports.
  • Manages department functions and department personnel.
    • Initiates departmental policies, procedures and practices consistent with hospital policies.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities including work routines and schedules and selects, hires, develops, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates departmental employees in compliance with MCHD policy.
  • Directs and coordinates department budget preparation and monitors the utilization of approved budgeted resources.
  • Other Significant Requirements:
  • Maintain HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Mitchell County Hospital District.
  • Interacts with all Medical Staff and department managers on a continuous basis.
  • Maintains favorable relationships with outside suppliers and vendors.
  • Follows safety guidelines and policies for the nursing home.
  • Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
