The firefighter position is responsible for performing fire suppression, emergency medical service (EMS) and rescue operations. Firefighters interact with the general public, public officials, and members of other agencies, for this reason they must always conduct themselves in a professional manner. This position is non-exempt and work is performed under the supervision of a Lieutenant.

• The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or a GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
• Experience as a full-time career firefighter or as a volunteer firefighter OR an equivalent combination of education, training and leadership experience will be considered.
• Past experience will be subject to review by the office of the Chiefs.

• Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Structural Firefighter or higher certification required.
• Must be a minimum EMT-Basic with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
• Texas Class B Exempt driver's license or able to obtain within 90 days of employment
• NIMS 100/ 200 / 700/ 800

• Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-Paramedic Certification or Paramedic License
• Texas Commission on Fire Protection Intermediate Firefighter (or higher)

• Prior firefighting experience is preferred but not required
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills. This position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external personnel
• Ability to make independent judgments and decisions within the framework of the established guidelines are necessary.
• Ability to attend and successfully complete continuing education in fire suppression, rescue operations and EMS operations
• Knowledge and skills to educate the public on fire prevention and general safety topics
