Network Specialist III

Location: Windham School District, North Texas Region – Winnsboro, Texas

Office location: contingent upon discussion.

Primary

Purpose:

Provide complex computer system support, including installing, configuring, and maintaining the district’s LAN and network computer systems. Maintain network hardware and software.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
  • Two years of full‑time wage‑earning network support experience.
  • Additional years of experience may be substituted for 30 semester hours on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Technical or trade‑school courses in computer science or management information systems may replace semester hours.
  • Personal technology required to perform duties remotely.
Special Knowledge & Skills
  • Proficient with operating systems, networks, and application software installation.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Linux/Unix, and related operating systems.
  • Understanding of network communications and protocols.
  • Experience installing network and computer (desktop/server) hardware.
  • Ability to diagnose hardware versus software problems in computer and network systems.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to assist employees with computer equipment and software.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
Major Responsibilities
  • Travel to Windham campuses to provide computer system support and network management as needed.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware and software.
  • Monitor and resolve IT incidents.
  • Assist users with password changes, software use, network services, and account troubleshooting.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers.
  • Assist with recovery from equipment failure and operational problems.
  • Maintain proper hardware, network, and operating system setups.
  • Automate routine system management functions (backups, printer selections, server reboots).
  • Contribute to Help Desk “How To” procedures and manuals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Perform duties professionally and punctually.
  • Follow Windham School District policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to professional, ethical, and responsible conduct as defined by Texas regulations.
Working Conditions
  • Travel by car, van, or airplane as required.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting less than 31 pounds, walking, standing, climbing stairs, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
  • Work in indoor/outdoor environments, exposure to noise, radiative/electrical energy, microwaves, dust, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Potential for irregular or prolonged work hours.
